"Desert and mountain places located on the margins of society are locations of choice in luring God's people to a deeper understanding of who they are." -- Belden C. Lane, The Solace of Fierce Landscapes, 1998

And to my Orthodox readers (I think I've got at least one Greek Orthodox lurker and possibly one Russian Orthodox occasional reader), Χριστος Ανεστη! Happy Easter!

Hmmm...

Abraham went into the desert,
Zoraster went into the desert,
No desert in India - Buddha went to the woods for thinking.

Jesus went into the desert,
Mohammad went into the desert,
Aristotle, Father of Reason - to the symposium he went a-drinking.

When I seek the moral compass
To discover where to stand,
I prefer the voice of 'Moderation'
And 'check the facts' over desert sands.
