Made it to yesterday's recorder concert, which was in the lobby of an assisted living facility. I was a little freaked out when I arrived to find the rest of the group already assembled and playing, but it turned out that the start time had not been moved up after all; we were just running through starts of pieces to warm up.

Gig mostly went okay despite insuficient sleep, though I didn't play as well as I would've liked. The only really bad bit was when I was playing sopranino recorder and a mistake or a tuning problem distracted me and suddenly I lost the ability to remember what clef I was reading. (For some reason, despite my having learned treble clef first, this only happens when I'm reading treble after just having read bass clef, never the other way 'round. I've been guessing this has to do with the high-pressure way I learned bass clef ("It's four weeks before opening night -- go!") compared to the more ordinary way I learned treble clef in seventh-grade. You'd think I would have moretrouble with clefs that move than I do, but knowing the clef is in an unusual place seems to but my brain in a different mode or something.) Fortunately I was soon back on bass recorder.

Crashed early last night, before the storm arrived (but I did see some of the early lightning as I was falling asleep). Not sure how hard it hit Baltimore. Although a longer stretch of sleep than I've been able to get recently has helped a lot, I'm still working on gathering spoons and got walloped by a rather nasty headache a little before noon today. I took some drugs and am going to shut my eyes again and wait for them to work.

I can read and play both F and G clef on the tenor and the alto. For some reason I don't know how to play the F clef on the sopranino.

Another thing I'm stumbling over all the time is the high register; up there my fingerings seem to be connected with the written note, not the sound.

I thought your eye worked fairly well-some of the few parts of your body that do.
