My verdict: worth the three and a half hours to watch. (That's two hours to watch it while it was being broadcast, and the hour and a half I'll spend watching it again later, fast-forwarding past the commercials. It's a watch-twice movie.) I'll save a longer review for later; for now a concise, "Whee! That was cool."

For all that they modernized it and added those special Muppet touches, in some ways they stayed closer to the book than I'd expected.

Taped most of it, starting 15 minutes in. Might appreciate a better copy. Yes, was quite fun.

It would have been a nice touch to have a homage to the b/w->color->b/w of the original though. Maybe no muppets in Kansas and no humans (like Toto, dorothy would get muppetized) in Oz.

Well, the original movie. The original movie did worse to the original book than what some of the James Bond movies did to Ian Fleming's original stories.

I did enjoy the muppet version, though.

Our recording fizzled (grr -- the TV Guide Online did some sort of update and fouled up the recording schedule), so I only saw the second half. But yes: especially given that they were Muppetizing the whole thing and bringing it up to date, I was very surprised as how many details were right. In many ways, it hews closer to the original than the Judy Garland movie does...
