The water in Woburn was polluted long before then, going back to the tanneries being set up there hundreds of years ago by European colonists. The companies that got stuck in the situation one of them had actually from what I heard had been a better company when it came to community responsibilities and such than most businesses are. [I have relatives who were lifelong residents of Woburn at the time, and some of them still live there.]

I didn't know the background of the case, thanks. I still think it's an interesting quote, though that does rob it of some of its punch.
