I know we had discussed some options earlier this year. Let us know if we can help by providing a phone (they only work with GSM-based services such as AT&T/Cingular or T-Mobile). Remember number portability; you shouldn't need to change your number ifwhen you change providers. Maybe a local friend can add you to a "family plan"; the area code would have to be the same as theirs. Most providers have such a plan for $10/month, and it generally includes free nights and weekends. Good luck!

As far as I know, prepaid phones are not part of the number portability scheme :-(.

Or at least they weren't a year and a half ago when I traded my prepaid phone in for a phone with a service agreement.
