This is one of those "tag" memes. I was
tagged
by
rendancer. This is the "five tunes you're digging" meme.
(I'll leave the phrasing intact despite having a minor quibble with it.)
Here are the "rules":
List five songs that you are currently digging. It doesn't matter
what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if
they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying
right now.
Post these instructions, the artist, and the song in your blog (livejournal) along with your five songs. Then tag five other people to see what they're listening to.
My five (which would probably be a different list twelve hours later):
- Phranc, "Why?" (from Positively Phranc)
maugorn, "The Walrus and the Carpenter" (words by
Lewis Carroll -- not recorded AFAIK, unless it's on his almost-finished
forthcoming album)- Led Zeppelin, "Misty Mountain Hop" (from their fourth album)
- The Homespun Ceilidh Band, "Edna Michael's Waltz" (written by Mike Stoddard, on Home)
- Phranc, "Dress Code" (from Positively Phranc)
Despite feeling like participating in this meme enough to bother making a list, I'm not sure I want to "tag" anybody else right now. I'm still deciding how I feel about tag memes in general (they feel just a little bit chain-letter-ish to me, and I'm also sorting out whether tagging someone seems a bit presumptuous ... or am I overthinking what's supposed to be innocuous fun?) and I've also lost track of which of my friends have already played (though a mischevious corner of my brain is suggesting using the "random journal" doohickey to find five people more than a few degrees of separation away -- who'll probably never see this entry -- to tag, just to monkeywrench the taggishness).
For folks unfamiliar with one of the artists on my list, here are a few lines from Phranc's "Why?":
Now I could give you all my love
And everything that you've dreamed of
But I can't give you everything you need
Acceptance
Is what you seem to want and need
Acceptance
By society
I could give you the house and station wagon
And the white picket fence too
But I can't give you everything you need
(no subject)
It's not recorded yet. The current project is pretty much a faithful remake of the _Patches_ tape, just better.
It will probably be recorded sometime in the foreseeable future, as I catch up on LOTS of recording projects now that I have a decently working studio and am getting more efficient with it.
After Pennsic, I'll be starting to record my gigs when I can, and anything that comes out good on those, I'll be making into "bootleg" gifts. So I'll see if a good version ever pops up and know what Santa is having me bring you next winter.
Most likely the next recording projects will be:
-CD of tunes on played on the banjo
-Compilation(s) of covers that I plan on using for work demos that I might as well pay royalties for and sell
- a "CD single" of "Party With The Elder Ones"
except for PWTEO- the above already have a bunch of work done on them, so they'll be coming out relatively quickly.
And THEN
-another CD of mostly traditional (& trad *sounding*) tunes
-a CD of originals.
A studio version will very likely show up on one of those latter two.

Me too. I know some folks like 'em, but that's still my reaction. Perhaps flavored by my reaction to a lot of memes on LJ.
