except that 'under God' wasn't added until 1954. There's a couple hundred years of precedent, including the founding fathers, yadda yadda, that says otherwise. I'm saddened, though unsurprised that Bush doesn't know this.
In God We Trust wasn't actually added to coinage until the 1860s, during the Civil War (was the result of a writing campaign).
In other words, there's considerable evidence that the Founding Fathers did NOT want this recognition, but it's been tacked on by waves of religious Christians akin to what we're experiencing now.
