I quoted it more for the snarkmanship than as a biology reference. :-) That is, I do think she has an interesting point with some biological basis, but I think it's clear she was going for the rhetorical power of an analogy rather than trying to play science teacher. Oversimplification, handwaving, phrasings more for convenience than accuracy -- yes, it's terribly easy to pick apart on the science, but the rhetorical effect, asking the listener to invert expectations and reconsider what the "defaults" are, is, I think, worth it. As long as nobody does take this as being more accurate than a real endocrinology textbook that doesn't handwave.
