It has a different character, not just a different intensity. The other appears to be a dusting of something light stuck to the tar, or perhaps a grey-coated roofing paper. This ... looks like paint and was applied like paint. It has the same albedo as a thick coat of snow; it's just odd to see that in August. It may dull with age, but won't look the same as the neighbours.
As for admiring it, I envied the others their ability to shield those within from the Evil Heat-Up-The-House Rays From Outer Space, not for their visual appeal. I am happy to have a high albedo. Deflect those evil rays, my blindingly shiny roof! Delect, reflect, protect! Yaaaay roof!
