"If there ever comes a point in time when you're not depressed by the
ending of Pennsic, then it's time to stop coming." -- Val, of the
Clan of the Burning Hand, (late 2005-08-20 or wee hours of 2005-08-21,
by their campfire)
Yep and I did for several years. I think I had more fun the last few years because of it too. I will however, never again try to do Pennsic as part of a 4-day weekend.
As a matter of fact, he offered two versions of the statement I quoted, the second one having, "... at least for a while," tacked on the end (but said he preferred the shorter version even though the other more accurately reflected his feelings).
I can remember when I'd try to drive up to Pennsic as fast as I could after work on Friday of what was then called "War Weekend" (i.e., the final weekend, when all the battles were fought) and plan to be at work on Monday morning. That was a long time ago. Nowadays people start heading home that Thursday and the exodus is readily apparent by Friday night, when I used to arrive. Doing it as a four-day weekend doesn't really work any more, no.
