I had been thinking before I read that essay how lucky I am that I would have gotten out. I have working cars, working credit cards, we have a cottage that, while inconvenient to stay comfortable in in iwnter, is an alternate place to live, we are all in good enough health to endure a long drive. We have Also, I have the good sense to pack the kids and dogs and get out.
It also occurs we are fortunate to live HERE. A storm may blow my house down, it may take out lots of the power for days or weeks, it might easily flood Georgetown and Annapolis and Alexandria. But we are just not gonna get something that can put all of DC or Baltimore completely under water for weeks.
