I do not need a TiVo. Admittedly, I want a TiVo and wouldn't complain if folks decided to gang up to give me one, but heating oil and new shoes are in the 'need' column and a TiVo is over there under 'daydreams'.
Of course when the mandatory changeover to HDTV comes along in a year or two, my VCRs and television will suddenly be a lot less useful anyhow ...
