I am using the software from the Ericsson site for the Z500a, yes. Or at least I think I am. At one point when I was looking at Z500a stuff, clicking on what I thought was a within this context" link got me to a page of downloads for a later model, but I'm pretty sure I got that sorted out before downloading the program. I'll try a loopback on the port later, or I'll try a different Windows box (once I stuff the RAM back into the one that's currently apart). A bad port would not surprise me. If it were expected to be this complicated, I figure you would have warned me, so I suspect a hardware or Windows-configuration problem.
I'd heard something about having to remove water and glycerine (or glycerides?) from used cooking oil ... but I haven't done the research yet. I'll see what Wikipedia says about it tonight.
There's always the possibility of a bad phone and/or data cable too.
I've seen two approaches to running diesel cars on veggie oil. It seems like the furnace would be similar.
1) Make biodiesel:
- filter out the chunks - adjust the ph of the oil - add methanol - stir - wait - skim off glycerin (about 20% by volume) - Everything that's left is biodiesel
or
2) the easy way (sort of) -filter out the chunks -warm the oil -burn it
The problem with #2 is that the car won't start if the injection system is plugged up with solidified oil, so it must be switched back to diesel before shutting off. I suspect that a furnace would be ok if the tank doesn't get too cold.
