Re the check: submit it to the bank anyway. Often they ignore that fine print; if they do return it, then you can look into replacing it. Otherwise, you've lost nothing.
I'm not drowning in cables, but have some spare. And some spare boxen. When/if you have the spoons to make a trip north, we can expand your network even more. (I hope you're not beginning to feel the server farm effect on your electric bill.) And re the monitor issue: KVM switches?
I'm not sure how bad the hit to my electric bill is. I should borrow the right kind of meter from someone and start measuring. Probably not as expensive as running electric space heaters (it's nearly time to plug those in)...
KVM switches help when the machines in question are close together and I seldom want to look at both screens at the same time. They're the right answer for the server room (I've got two 2-port switches that I have no cables for, and one currently installed ... and the idea that just popped into my head, of ganging them together as a tree to make a confusing 4-port switch is probably asking for trouble, isn't it?). I'm still trying to decide whether that also makes sense in the office, where I do wind up tracking something on one screen while typing on the other. But I also want to put a computer in the music room, and replace a couple of monitors that are starting to die.
I'm currently trying to work out travel plans for the next couple months. I've got a few trips that I'd really like to make, including heading your direction. I'll keep you posted. And thanks.

Good luck, and enjoy!
