Two today. One thoughtful, one painfully ironic:

"The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn't the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility." -- John Lennon

"I don't intend to be a performing flea any more. I was the dreamweaver, but although I'll be around I don't intend to be running at 20,000 miles an hour trying to prove myself. I don't want to die at 40." -- John Lennon

[I remember where I was when I heard the news that day, oh boy. And when I heard it repeated. And when I found out it was for real, not having been willing to believe it at first, still not wanting to believe it even after I did.]

Here's a thought (original with me): The powers that be took one look at the sixties and decided that people will never feel secure enough to try something like that again.

I agree with your thought. Who would think that the children who lived from the Korean War and through all the conformity that was the 1950's (McCarthyism springs to my mind) would be the secure, the *only* secure ones?

I do, too. And I didn't, either. (silence and a tear)

I think that John Lennon's death was for many of us the day we'll always remember where we were, a la JFK's assassination. I was walking to school, crossing the playground when my best friend told me. She called him 'the guy with the glasses'.

Heart thud.

'Empty Garden' by Elton John still makes me weep. I hope that never changes.

I just saw Elton John being interviewed by James Lipton and he is not able to sing that song.

Thanks for the remembering.

I won't remember where I was; I was two.

Uh, yeah. Not fun.

The weird/sad/odd thing is, I really can't remember what we were doing right *before* hearing......

You do remember that drawing on the tennis court, don't you? I sometimes wonder if I imagined that. And all the fog......
