Hear, hear! Does anyone have a definitive non-leftist source for the Bush quote? I ask this as a progressive myself, who still has a hard time believing that even the Chimpmeister could be so stupid as to say that out loud, although I don't doubt he believes it.

i've been looking, but its not even mentioned on snopes.com (of course, some on the right consider snopes as a site that "has an agenda" (good grief...))

I know it was submitted to Snopes, but haven't heard any feedback from the person who did it.

Capitol Hill Blue isn't partisan, despite the name; however, it is a notorious gossip rag, and as a raging progressive who is absolutely fucking sure that Bush feels this way, the most credit I can give Thompson for this story is that it's probably based on a kernel of truth. I would fucking love to get confirmation of it, though, so if you find any, please post it here.

D'glenn, do you mind if I link this and/or repost it with credit?

Please consider it an open letter to all Americans, and propogate it wherever you think it might do any good. Thanks.

I've been waiting for confirmation from a different direction as well (hence the word "apparently" in the first paragraph). I too find it easy to believe, at least via that source (I'd be skeptical if 'twere some blog I'd never heard of, or The Weekly World News) but would love to know for sure. I'd love to know, whether that knowledge confirms or rebuts.

The thing is, though the quote was a launching point for writing this, nothing within it really depends on the literal accuracy of that quotation; his actions, whether he said those very shocking words or not, speak louder than his words can. Equally important, he's not doing it all by his lonesome.
