"But these are not the most dangerous times in American history, despite the self-flattery of our politicians and media. This is a nation that expelled the British, saw the White House burned to the ground in 1814, fought two world wars, and faced down the Soviet Union. Sept. 11 does not justify ignoring the Constitution by creating broad new federal police powers. The rule of law is worthless if we ignore it whenever crises occur." -- Representative Ron Paul (R-TX), 2005-12-27

A REPUBLICAN said this! Restores some of my faith in the political process, for sure!

Wonder how long it will be before the party leadership jerks his chain to get him to stop thinking and vote the line. Still, Texas was a sovereign nation at one point.

Recently I posted to my LJ blog about getting fed up when politicos
use 'well, everything changed on 9/11' as a catch-all reply to excuse
anything.

Kudos to Gwen Smith for her logic of how someone could say 9/11 could
be used in an argument on why they HAD to rob a store!

He's my favorite GOP house member,
and he's well known as being hard nosed
when it comes to constitional rights,
and he's a Texan no less.
