"Homophobia is a symptom of repressed homosexuality. People who are not gay really don't think that much about gay sex. It It just doesn't concern them so it's not 'on their radar' unless they know someone who is openly gay." -- Morgaine Swann, 2005-06-01

Absulutely. Anyone who can stand up and claim the homosexuality is a CHOICE is certainly bi-sexual, possibly entirely homosexual and simply being dishonest in all their sexual relationships. And then wondering why they are so angry and wretched. They may not actually realize that not everyone in the world is bi-sexual, that many of us have absulutely no inclination to same-sex-sex.

I certianly never CHOSE to be heterosexual. One day I'm happily hangin around with my female friends, playing guitar, baking cookies, doing arts and crafts, then BOOM all of a sudden all I can think about is BOYS. Had I been given a choice I would most likely have preferred to be lesbian, since I didn't like any boys but had close female friends I enjoyed spending time with.

The problem with this quote is not the accuracy insofar as the first part. The problem is the implication of the second part.

Yes, homophobia is a symptom of repressed homosexuality (or bisexuality as [livejournal.com profile] old_hedwig stated). But homophobia is not *only* a symptom of repressed homosexuality/bisexuality. People, as a group, are complex, and exhibit a massive range of views, feelings, and reactions. IOW, there are examples of people who are entirely heterosexual, but still homophobic.

I have very little to no tolerance for it. I just know that it exists.

I think that homophobia (and any other phobia of some people by other people) has its roots in the most ugly phobias of them all - xenophobia... It is one of the forms of fear of *other* of *different*... Add to this hearty amount of hipocricy and voila - you obtain a quote like this...
