While that's definitely a good idea, one shouldn't give the short shrift to the Anti-Federalist Papers.

Several of their predictions, poo-poohed as "hysterical" by the Federalists, have not only come to pass, they've become the norm. When was the last time any of the several States actually stood up to Congress on such unauthorized (and therefore unConstitutional) matters as the drinking age?

The United States no longer ARE a republic. The United States now IS a republic. That's why they toe the line.

I read The Federalist Papers for AP US history in high school too.
