I have the schtuff to do SMT. I find that one only needs the smallest iron that radio snack has, some whisker solder, and a rosin pen. Magnification is nice, non metallic tweezers are also nice. the technique I like is to melt a measured amount/length of whisker solder onto the iron and then touch the iron to the joint and let it 'sweat' in. I can perform this operation if you wish.
