It's because there's no election.
I charted the gas prices then, and told The Hubby (tm) that
they would get lower towards the election. He said they
couldn't possibly be that stupidly blatant, people would
notice. I told him to mark my words. And prices went up the
day after the election. He apologized, being the sweetie
that he is, & the world got just that much more cynical.

That's not the only phenomenon having an effect here, but yeah, I remember the October/November thing. I don't recall an election two weeks ago when the price was so much lower than today -- I suspect there was some factor I don't know about depressing prices in February (for just long enough for me to get used to the lower level so that their rebound to the two-and-a-half-buck range feels more like an onerous increase than the end of a brief dip).
