Scottish country dances are typically 32 or 40 bars long, and can be broken up into 8-bar phrases. One of the dancers in class talked a visiting friend, a mathematician who had never tried any form of dance before, into coming to class by telling him, "Come on! You get to spend the whole evening in a base 8 universe!" He seemed to have a good time, but I don't know if he ever tried it again after he went home.
Scottish country dancing seems to appeal to a lot of mathematicians, scientists, IT professionals, and librarians. tamnonlinear calls it dancing for introverts. I love it because I think it's great fun, and the music is terrific!
