In hindsight, a black skirt is not the best choice of clothing for transport-the-cat day. A stressed, overheated, medium-hair tabby can render an awful lot of her environment a fluffy grey, including a couple of parking lots we stopped in along the way.

Fluffy fluffy fluffy
Tufts hang in the air
In the absence of any breeze.
Fur refusing to fall
Because it would be less decorative on the ground.

Seriously. Clouds of grey fur just hanging there around head height after Perrine had been petted a bit by [info] anniemal while I ran into a store to buy cat litter.

Sarah does this too. Every time I have to take her to the vet, I have to bring a towel with me to carry her in so the fur does not wind up EVERYWHERE... The little clouds of the fluffy white stuff just hang in the air... It's like little seed pods, only more likely to send people's allergies off (milkweed seed pods don't usually cause allergy problems, they're not pollen, just seeds).

Probably would ahve worked better if you had written it as a limerick.

Didn't think of that at the time; may try to do a limerick version later now that you've suggested it -- you're right that it probably would have worked better that way.

Might I suggest a tasteful grey twill? Serves to ameliorate the problems of not only grey hair but black and white as well. Mind, I've only got personal experience with dog hair ("Okay, we've got a small mostly-black dog, what shall we get now? A predominantly white dog? With brown patches? Perfect!") but I suspect the principle's the same.

An odd question for you - feel free to ignore, but it's one I'm always curious about. I hate skirts myself, and keep a couple strictly for interviews, weddings and such but I stick to slacks and jeans as much as I can just on ground of comfort and convenience. You seem to like skirts, and obviously in the face of convention so I expect you must have a strong opinion in favor of them - please explain to me why?? I've never been a girly girl in many ways, and I guess I just never got skirts. I've always been vaguely curious about why people might prefer them.

I'll try to give this the kind of answer it deserves after I get back from Pennsic and am not trying to do anything online as briefly as possible to save money.

Unless you have a grey heather or such, there is no right choice of color: anything would say "Cat hair!" in large letters after that. The choice should probably be based on fabric, seeking something that the fur would cling to least.

I pulled yet another tuft off her and when I put it out the window, it rose a little on the warm air from the pavement and just hung there.

Virginia summers. Ugh. I'd not only take off my clothes, I'd take off my skin without that sweet compressor in the yard.

There's a song about it, I think. "Dance around in your bones"?
