I have been writing for the past five years or more about the religious takeover of the US government by the Republicans. Every Republican who runs for office now is vetted by the Christian Coalition and does not receive Republican backing unless he or she has an extremely high rating. My research for the 2004 election is here. I have also written extensively about this and quoted authorities who have been tracking the pseudoChristian takeover of the US at Kit's Concatenation.
The information has not been going unnoticed -- but it has been ignored, as it was in Germany.
Except that anything religious that tries to get snuck through legislation gets thrown out or overturned. Intelligent design, a sneaky way of trying to push Creationism on unsuspecting school children, has been tossed out in every school district where it has been tried to be implemented.
People are on a religious trend. It will pass. In the 70s it was the Equal-Rights Ammendment and if you weren't a feminist, you were sunk politically. In 10 years we'll have some other hotbed issue. All these are trends and they come and go.
Personally I think the resurgence of religion is a backlash against the 60s and rebellion against all things traditional. We've swung the other way. We'll swing back.
I think you might benefit from looking deeply into the information at thomas.loc.gov concerning the bills that *have* passed. Your information is incorrect.
