"I once pissed off a roomfull of economists by declaring that not only was economics not a science, but it was nothing more than an apologetic for the existing social order. And not a very good one.
"That was at an annual meeting of economics students and professors in New York (they invited me because I was an organizer for the IWW and they wanted a 'different viewpoint').
"They didn't invite me back the next year."

Agreed.
but it was nothing more than an apologetic for the existing social order.
Thus exhibiting the typical fanatic idiot (but I repeat myself) bias of "Anything which does not explicitly support my position is support of my opponents' position."
And not a very good one.
Because it isn't one.
Economics is an intellectual field that's trying to become a science. It would be a good thing if it succeeded, although I have my doubts that that's possible without substantial advances in psychology.
