"From their conflation of homosexuality with non-consensual acts like incest, child molestation, beastiality, etc. it's always been apparent to me that people who view homosexuality (and female promiscuity) as immoral have no concept of sexual consent. None. Beware the homophobe, and not just because s/he's homophobic." -- snobographer, 2010-07-02 [ thanks to [info] realinterrobang for quoting it earlier]

I remember realizing this exact fact during the year after I was sexually assaulted, when I was (among other epiphanies) realizing how the so-called 'moral and religious' upbringing I'd been given (which included a hefty dose of homophobia) had not only not equipped me to evade sexual assault but had helped make me more vulnerable, in part by giving me absolutely no framework for or concept of consent.

Which reminds me to do what I can to make sure the people whose upbringing I can influence *are* equipped with such a concept.

I agree that there's a consent connection in the mental picture that conflates homosexuality with non-consensual acts. I'm not entirely sure that I agree with the conclusion.

It seems to me that a significant portion of *male* homophobia has specifically to do with fear of gay rape. When you look at some of the studies of how many male teenagers admit to fantasizing about committing rape* and claim that they would be willing to rape if there were no consequences (which, I think, is honestly a statement about fantasy), you can see how males could project those adolescent fantasies on homosexual men and have an overt or covert belief that all homosexual men are out to rape them.

*I don't believe that means they would really commit rape. I do wish I could find the citation about the surveys.

Oh, the whole "gay rape fear" is precisely an indication of their morality, or lack thereof - it's Freudian projection.
