That's why I'll accept an "Oops, we're really embarrassed about that" from them ... but not a "oh, big deal, whatever" response. Still, you'd think somebody at WETA would (a) be trans or (b) read the Blade and be aware via that, and mention to somebody else that it seemed like a poor choice of movie for this date.
The movie itself wouldn't be less offensive, no. But choosing that night to show that movie is an extra-offensive act in itself; at least that's what I think eftychia's point is.
What silmaril said -- the movie would've annoyed me on any other night but I probably would've grumbled to myself or posted something about that trope in movies in general, but airing it on the 19th and 20th of November (I checked, and they did re-show it yesterday afternoon) felt like an added layer of wrongness on top of the longstanding wrongness that the existence of the trope represents.
