The movie itself wouldn't be less offensive, no. But choosing that night to show that movie is an extra-offensive act in itself; at least that's what I think [personal profile] eftychia's point is.

What [personal profile] silmaril said -- the movie would've annoyed me on any other night but I probably would've grumbled to myself or posted something about that trope in movies in general, but airing it on the 19th and 20th of November (I checked, and they did re-show it yesterday afternoon) felt like an added layer of wrongness on top of the longstanding wrongness that the existence of the trope represents.
