In general, people in minorities write characters in the majority better than people in majorities write characters from minorities they don't belong to.
Yup. Which means those in the majority need to, first, recognize the problem and, second, figure out how to remedy it (which must involve getting to know people in the group of interest, but it's more than just that -- you have to know what to pay particular attention to, and ideally you want to find out without stepping in it too badly).
