Another way is to go to that user's calendar-view, select "show subjects", and pick the post from the list there. (If you click on the day before switching to the "show subjects" view, you'll get a page containing every entry for that day from that user.)
Four clicks and a little scrolling. Walking through your way in my head ... also four clicks, plus a little typing? Or is there another click to confirm the deletion of the dummy comment? Your way sounds like it'd feel more "direct", but I still like mine because it doesn't require posting something intended to be deleted a moment later. Either way gets the job done though.
I've noticed that Slashjournal and at least one other system have a "permalink" (or similarly phrased) button on each entry, which takes you directly to an "only this entry" page.
