Its not a photo-shop trick. Someone in CNN editorial messed up. Wolfe actually even said "light" on the air (corrected himself a few minutes later). When they switched to speed of sound, the first version said "Mock 18" instead of "Mach".
Oh man, that's disturbing. I think I'd be happier thinking someone was creepy enough to Photoshop that than knowing that however many people in the chain from writer to Wolfe (including both ends of the chain) could have that mistake not leap screaming from the page and attack their retinas with flashing red lights before it got spoken and shown. Ouch!
