I am still having trouble getting used to the idea of "Blitzkrieg Bop" being used as the soundtrack for a television commercial. (For, uh, phone service, is it?)

Okay, "Beat On The Brat" would've been even stranger, but still, it's just not what I would expect to get used for a commercial. (Unfortunately it doesn't make me want to buy the service it's advertising. It just makes me want to find an MP3 of the complete song.)

[wanders off, shaking head]

Mood:: not sure of the right word
Music:: television

I dunno... ever since "Zippy the Pinhead" became a daily strip carried by major newspapers, I find that very little of this kind of stuff surprises me any more...

I also rarely remember what products they're using these songs for, and since it puts better music than traditional jingles on the air, I'd say that makes it a net plus. :-)

Good point about Zippy.

And you're right that using good songs for ads does mean that a little of the crufty music is pushed out of the way, but doggone it, it feels like such a tease to get this wee fragment of a cool song, y'know?
