"Never again will I allow WOMEN to wear my dresses!" -- Alberto Beddini (played by Erik Rhodes), in Top Hat

Someone on my friends list mentioned this quote on a day when I'd gotten way behind. By the time I'd looked up the movie the quotes is from, I'd lost track of who had mentioned it. Now I want to see this movie just to find out the context of the line.

Context is a wonderful thing (.)(,) I prefer to do without.

Why are there ascii boobs there, and why is one of them extra-droopy?

Well if I answered that question, I would be providing context.

I have no idea who said it, or in what context, but it reminds me very much of the punchline of the Danny Kaye song "Anatole of Paris":

"And why do I sew each new chapeau
With a style they most look positively grim in
Strictly between us, entre-nous
I hate women!"

LOL

Years before I realized I was a transsexual, a female friend needed to wear something loose so she borrowing one of my dresses. I was the only one of her friends who actually owned one.

Heh ... the number of my cisgendered (http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisgender) female friends who've borrowed job-interview clothes from me over the years ... (mostly when I weighed less and wore more fashionable styles than I do now).

I *think* the context was a male designer scorned in love (or perhaps just embarrassed by one). Mmm, top hat, fun movie ... I think I have it on tape ... come over and see it sometime (and maybe bring that contact sheet -- I wanna see/select my pictures!) :-)

Doh! Recent events pushed that too far down on my consciousness stack! Yes, I need to visit, see Top Hat, proffer embarrassed apologies, and show you the contact sheet.

Found the tape, checked it to make sure it's still sharp / in good condition. Off to North Carolina now, back Saturday. Hopefully we can make plans after I'm back, though feel free to go ahead and suggest a time/day to visit.

Enjoy!

Nitpicking to be polite: that link needs content put in it so it links somewhere but, well, here. :->

That was odd. Not sure how the extra quotation mark crept into the markup, even less sure why it took me two passes through the "edit journal entry" page to get the correction to register. I think I've got it now. I'm about to go check that it gets to the correct IMDB page...
