US politicos ...
"The First Amendment is often inconvenient. But that is besides the point. Inconvenience does not absolve the government of its obligation to tolerate speech."
-- Justice Anthony Kennedy

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
-- John F. Kennedy

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
-- Abraham Lincoln

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth."
-- John F. Kennedy

And not ...
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made president should on no account be allowed to do the job."
-- Douglas Adams, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

"With the first link, a chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
-- Picard, ST:TNG, quoting a fictional judge, "The Drumhead"

"The most certain test by which we judge whether a country is really free is the amount of security enjoyed by minorities."
-- Lord Acton

"Patriotism is thinly veiled racism."
-- Albert Einstein
