I don't have fond memories of the organza bridesmaid dress I wore years back, which couldn't be altered or re-dyed into anything that didn't resemble a made-over bridesmaid dress. But the faux-Elizabethan dress (lace-up bodice with flounced skirt) from another wedding was very re-usable. For my own wedding, I wore teal-blue velvet with cream lace, and sent snippets to my attendant and told her to come in whatever suited her that would go with that and with yellow flowers. If you had been she, I'm sure the choice of dress would have been more flattering and less ... tacky ... because you have far better taste.
