What I do with our boys is choose a time when I am NOT in a hurry. Spread something (towel or whatever) on the floor. Get cat one, lay the cat down and pet/scritch in favorite way, with forearm sort of lightly pin the animal. With a free hand, get the paw and fold the leg so it is close to the body ... according to the vet we take the boys to, the thing that annoys the cat the most is having its leg pulled out (esp. sideways), and extend the claws. Using the other hand (the one that is pinning the cat with the forearm) use the clipers. Be fast, straight, and avoid going close to where you can see pink in the claw. When you do a couple, scritch the cat then do some more (I pause for a quick scritche ever claw or two). After the procedure, I do something for the cat that it likes (The TOY, or a treat).
Then I repeat with the other cat. I do not necessarily get all 4 feet done in one session, it depends on the cat's mood. I do sometimes roll the cat over since Pooh really prefers having the paw worked on being the one not next to the ground.a
