I just saw the first billboard advertising fireworks. They're illegal in New York, but the shop being advertised is in Pennsylvania and is only a twenty minute drive away.

Maryland has police watching the most heavily travelled routes to and from DC around this time of year, looking for suspiciously timed return trips that suggest a visit to a fireworks stand just inside the city. I don't know whether they do something similar along the PA border or not, nor whether NY would do the same.
