We properly prorect children, either without their knowledge or agianst their wishes. In some specific cases, we need to protect adults - but only when they have lost normal mental capacity. To assume to do this for another adult is insulting - to assume that some whole class of adults requires you to look out for them is so condescending it borders on delusional.

this could definitely apply to more than just men thinking women need protection. a good thing to keep in mind generally, i think.

oddly, that's part of why I can't commit myself to being a feminist anymore - too many women making decisions about what all women need.

I'd like to find the person who appropriated the word "feminist" and changed its meaning from someone who's interested in promoting the civil, legal, financial (and other) equality of females with males and disenfranchise them, take $100 out of their wallets and give them $80 back, and visit all sorts of other culturally capricious mayhem upon them.
