"Long before our founders met in Philadelphia, their forbears first came to these shores to escape oppression at the hands of despots in the old world who mixed religion with politics and claimed dominion over both their pocketbooks and their souls. This aggressive new strain of right-wing religious zealotry is actually a throw-back to the intolerance that led to the creation of America in the first place." -- Al Gore, 2005-04-27

HA maybe it's the hour at which I'm attempting to read this but it took 4 go-rounds before it made any sense. Then I had to read it again so that it would make sense. I agree with it... I think. Ugghh. It's too late or early or something to be making decisions on where one lies on political issues when where I really need to be lying is in bed... blahh. Anyway, this quote I like.

Sure did... I think the indians should say sorry to each other. After all they were in constant war with each other.

Gore's absolutely right -- though trying to trace the actual denominational links between then and now leads to madness and far too much caffeine.
