If I am not mistaken, and I could be as I am terrible with this.. But I can write tab. I don't have my guitar stringed at the moment, but it sounds like something close to Stair way to heaven..
Or
Pink Floyd wish you were here, the lead in to the chours.
But then again I could be full of it.. lol Like I said, my guitar isn't strung. *grumble*
Do you mean this bit of "Stairway to Heaven"? (Note to non-guitarists: sounds an octave lower than notated.)
If so, then no -- though they're both based on arpeggios. The other arpeggiated figures in "Stairway" that come immediately to mind all have runs longer than five notes before a pause, and are all legato, but I could be forgetting something. Still, I don't think that's where the mystery fragment comes from. It doesn't feel right for it.
I don't know the bit you mean from "Wish You Were Here", though I'm sure the next time I hear the song I'll recognize the part you mean and feel silly for not having remembered it right now.
(Would this be easier in tab, or does it not matter until you have your guitar in front of you? I find tab to mostly be a pain (except for the times when it's a godsend for explaining a tricky and non-obvious fingering), but these bits are short enough that I could probably stand to tab them. (This question is directed at any other guitarists reading this, not just twinsmomwhoas alone.))
if you have it in tab, i could hear it better. i can sorta read normal music, but only in the basic sense, like a chid first learning.
i might have some recorded music that resembles what you have.
the more i think about it, the more i am convinced it' wish you were here. lead guitar, which is blended inti the background, and the rhythm is in front. pardon my typing, I am typing one handed and eating a popcycle.. :)
Ah! If that's it, then I won't feel so bad about not getting it on my own. That's a band I am not terribly familiar with (but have heard occasionally).
Like I said earlier, it's just off by a little, but it definately matches my tab, it's 4, 0, 3, and then 2, 0, 3. But um drawing with the keyboard? Not my finer points at all. LOL
string =s, and # for fret, and if we did this then it would turn into
s1, 3, s4, 4 s3, Open, s1, 3 (to repeat). Then he changes to s4, 2, s3, Open, s1, 3...
and the beat is 4/4 with picking centered from bottom key to top (up strum) if you want me to send you the music, (MP3 format) my Yahoo ID hollowmoon
Nah, would have been fine if my brain was actually engaged... it didn't ring any bells though.. so frustratng when you get something familiar and can't place it, hope you can work out what it is!
This is how the song "Yesterday" was written, you know. Paul had the melody in his head and kept asking folks where he had heard it. You could be on the road to writing your masterpiece!
(emerging from lurk mode) The first two measures are a classic cartoon/PBS (sorry, I'm not sure which, but I strongly identify it with a show involving squeaky-voiced characters for some reason) "mystery" signal - the "uh-oh, something sneaky is afoot!" kind of theme. It may very well be something else as well, but I'm sure it was used for that. :) And I'm sure my brain will spend the rest of the day trying to remember *which* show it's from, now!
It's the theme to "Mystery!" which had animated drawings by the inimitable Edward Gorey as its opening sequence. My father watched it almost every night.
I agree... although I don't think it is original to "Mystery!" since it is also a common "sneaky-sneak" theme heard in early cartoons... hmmm, I wonder if it dates from Vaudeville and/or Melodramas?
