The red-orange-yellow coloration isn't that uncommon to snakes from this area, actually. Red rat snakes, as cirith_ungol says, some of the hognose snakes, and of course, the breeders are doing a fair variety of snakes in these sorts fo designer color morphs-kingsnakes, milksnakes.
Water snakes around here for the most part tend to be darkish blue to dark brown, almost black background.
