Dreams of television soundstages and hotels and snakes. A sitcom. But I wasn't sure which bits were scripted and which bits weren't supposed to happen (pretty much everything regarding a snake was a detail I didn't think was scripted, except when another character did something so sitcom-stupid that it made me think the snakes were part of it after all), nor certain which bits were being filmed and when I was supposed to be in-character. Red-orange-yellow snakes coming up out of the shower drain, translucent around the edges so I wasn't sure whether they were snakes or worms -- platyhelminthes from hell, with the colours of their birthplace and a third of a meter long? -- but I was scared to get close enough to see whether they had scales. Woke up six or seven times and fell back asleep and back into same or similar dream, sommetimes replaying a section with or without variations, sometimes jumping to a different point in the story. Mostly forgotten by the time I pulled myself completely awake except for the images of the snakes in the bathwater, trying to keep my feet away from them, the fear, [livejournal.com profile] anniemal being in the dream and eventually getting a snake to her to identify (yes a snake, no not poisonous in one take of that scene, oops deadly poisonous in a different take of that scene), and Stereotypical Dumb Guy stock character dumping a plastic tub of snakes and water in the hotel hallway instead of out in the parking lot ... and watching four or five snakes streaming away from us and vanishing around corners.

Definitely not the coral snakes someone on my friendslist dreamed about recently. Something else, which probably doesn't exist (but I'm half tempted to blow the morning Googling pictures of water snakes just in case I can find a snake that looks sort of similar except for the translucent effect ... hmm ... unless that was a translucent fin instead of translucent body -- eels of red and orange and yellow instead of snakes?)

I feel as though I've gotten a lot less sleep than the clock says.

While you're looking for and at pictures of real snakes,

take some time to check out some folklore while you're at it, Asian Indian, Hindu, and Tibetan in particular.

Look for descriptions of the appearance of the Nagas and of any snakes that are supposed to attend to them.

Just a suggestion.

One more suggestion. If you look at your dream from the perspective of Shamanistic Traditions, you're not supposed to be avoiding the snakes' biting or dismembering you. Once the apprentice/seeker overcomes their fear of transcendence, the spirit is then able to merge with them thru the ritual dismemberment in a trance or dream. It's a painful process, but then you are linked to the spirit and are then under it's protection and have access to some of their power as well even as they work thru you.

It's just a thought, but given the direction of this and the last dream you posted, I'm getting a feeling that "someone" has taken an interest in you and that if you take steps to not obstruct them, then you are in for a great gift.

At the time I was all wrapped up in the precautionary mindset of being confronted with beasties of unknown hazard level. Next time I'll try to figure out that I'm dreaming and adjust my responses appropriately, Hadn't considered the mystical angle until you brought it up.

This was the first beastie to come to mind. Also known as a red rat snake. It's non-poisonous, but has been known to "buzz" its tail against dry leaves. It's also been mistaken for a copperhead (I checked pics of those, too, and copperheads aren't nearly as brightly colored, IMO.)

Diffuse longitudinal stripes instead of distinct bands, and a lot more red. Looked almost like living flames under the water.

Hm. The Eastern Garter Snake has a "red phase" and is classed as "striped" (as opposed to banded or blotched), but when I looked at it, the pattern looked almost like a checkerboard. (o.O)

Nothing else that I found came close.

The red-orange-yellow coloration isn't that uncommon to snakes from this area, actually. Red rat snakes, as [livejournal.com profile] cirith_ungol says, some of the hognose snakes, and of course, the breeders are doing a fair variety of snakes in these sorts fo designer color morphs-kingsnakes, milksnakes.

Water snakes around here for the most part tend to be darkish blue to dark brown, almost black background.

Hm, the Mid-Atlantic Reptils Show was in Timomium just last weekend. Maybe you're getting leftover vibes from that?

The ones in my dream had a lot more red and the stripes were diffuse and longitudinal. The snakes looked flame-like.

Hmm. If I'm picking up week-stale psychic leftovers from Timonium ... then that opens up a whole 'nuther class of questions.
