I got that line from the recent revelation that human's domestication of the dog may in fact be 12,000 to 15,000 years old. If so, we'd have had dogs before we domesticated wheat or rice or took up farming in any manner.
Of course actual WHEAT is older than any mammal, true. Some of the wheat germ I have in my pantry appears to have been there since Sumer and Acad.
