I'm pretty sure the woman who sold them to me explained that -- I get a fuzzy memory of the conversation every time I look at them. But the second-wave flavour is "peppery", and they're yummy, and apparently they're still called "pink peppercorns" despite not really being pepper and I don't know what else to call them. When I wrote that I was tempted to include an asterisk and a footnote that said, "which aren't truly peppercorns", but since the aforementioned memory was, as mentioned, fuzzy, I wasn't certain I was remembering correctly which spice that conversation had been about. So I didn't. Now I am (thank you), but your comment will do the job of the hypothetical footnote. Whee.

Oh, I'm in an odd mood this morafternoon.

Anyhow, a) you're right, and b) they're still yummy. And cute. Kyute. Had to get them out of the translucent paper bag and into a glass jar, so they can catch the corner of my eye when I'm in the kitchen and make me smile. And remind me to use them. And tempt me to just nibble on a few right out of the jar.
