"I have to go to Pennsylvania. It's about a land dispute, and I may have to go to court." -- Interrobang's explanation for why she needed time off from work to go to Pennsic (and from comments I got later, it's apparently used by other folks as well.)

I didn't use that on my boss; it's something Ursa and I came up with five or six or seven years ago as a general "catch-all" excuse to convince someone's (anyone's?) recalcitrant boss to let them go to Pennsic. Me, I just told the boss I was going, and I went. Since we came up with this phrase several years ago (and, IIRC, posted an anecdote to a related thread on either Middlebridge or the Rialto), I'm not surprised other people are using it by now...although gratified, somewhat. :)

Ah, I misremebered. Still, a classic line.

This reminds me of what a former cow orker who was a Canadian SCAdian (whee) said about crossing the US border with a trunk full of swords: "The phrase is 'historical reenactments'. Don't say Society for Creative Anachronism. They don't know what anachronism means. They do know what anarchism means, and they don't like it."
