But I think the thing I don't get about it the most is why the fuck people need to abuse TG folk.

More generally, I don't get why people have to abuse people who are not like them and who aren't hurting anyone. It's revolting.

There's probably also a side case of treating men differently from women. Most of the attacks on homosexuals we hear about are on gay men, not lesbians. And it's not very obvious from the outside if a woman thinks of herself as a man, because unless she starts wearing suits with ties she's probably dressed the same way as most women who don't do dresses, at least to the casual observer. And for some reason, there is this meme of "men must be many MEN, not sissies in dresses" among some of the less-enlightened folks out there. Bah.

Well, I could be wrong, but aren't most of the people who are attacked, attacked because there was a perception they came onto the attacker? In other words, there's a "oh my god I [almost] fucked that" thing going on.

I could be wrong.

I don't have any statistics to evaluate "most", but I know I've read newspaper accounts of cases where attackers went into gay bars to pick someone up for the express purpose of beating him up or worse. Isn't that what happened to Matthew Shepard?

I dunno, I thought their being in the same bar was coincidence.

But I don't really know. I do think it's disgusting. If it's not something you want, just leave it alone, sez I.
