Don't know whether to reward or not... Perrine just brought me a mouse, and lost it in my bed.

Edit at 23:00: I found the mouse, it ran off the bed, Perrine caught sight of the mouse again, and we chased it behind and under things. I picked things up and tried to startle it into running toward Perrine. Perrine ran behind and under things. Between the two of us we managed to trap it, and I got to it before Perrine managed to pick it up again. She spent the next twenty or thirty minutes continuing to try to find it and ignoring me when I tried to give her a treat.

Hmph. It's sweet that she wants to be near me, but I wish she wouldn't drop the live toys in my bed.

Reward...at least she didn't bring you a 158K message with a .gif and .jpg attached, and loose that in your bed.

Good point. If she'd done that, the apropriate reaction would have been unambiguous.

I wound up trying to reward her after we recaptured the mouse -- I do want her to hunt ... I just wish she wouldn't let them loose in various places (especially my bed).

It's "appropriate", damn it. Two "Pee"'s up front.

I'm chortling about the rest of the story. It's a mouse, not a half-grown bunny, or a bloody bird. Smile, Dearlove. She's a fine huntress, just a bit confused.

If you have a mouser then consider this act the highest of compliments. Your kitty has decided you are ready to learn to hunt.

I didn't get the impression she was bringing it to me; I think she just wanted a place to drop it and chase it again, and decided either that the bedroom was a comfortable place or that she wanted to be near me while she played (she's been following me around from room to room a lot again lately). It didn't seem like she was presenting it ... Then again, I was already going into my "oh no, she's got something in her mouth, probably alive, and she's about to drop it on the bed where it can run under the blankets" reaction and trying to position myself to trap it quickly, so I wasn't paying as much attention to her body language as I might have otherwise. (I wasn't quick enough.)

She's a real sweetie, but I wish she weren't so cocky and/or careless with her prey. I undesrtand wanting to chase it around some more, but she gives them too much of a head start.

When Socks was a kitten he enjoyed bringing his prey into the house.
Thankfully usually the basement. There is nothing funnier in the world than my father trying to chase a live squirel around the basement with the cat on the other side of the door clawing desperatly to get at his prey.
This is a phase that they do outgrow. Hang in there

The scrawny, incontinent, therefore outdoor cat does not take them on. Hereabouts, they're bigger and meaner than he is.

It's okay. I see feathers about, and caught him eating maybe a mole the other week, (whence his icky parasites), but I mostly just try to get him to eat.

Hee Hee... My midnight used to do this. I think that it's because they are having so much fun with the mouse that they want to share. Just love kitty antics. How's the allergy to cats doing now that you are exposed to a cat on a daily basis?

Most days the allergy is pretty well under control, so I don't even notice breathing-wise. But when other allergens or a cold are giving me trouble, being too close to Perrine does make a noticable difference (not unmanageable, but definitely noticeable).

I still have to be careful not to touch my eyes after petting her, but that too varies in severity depending on what other stresses my body is dealing with.

Short answer: quite manageable, thank goodness.

You could do both... There's no real conflict between cursing because there's a mouse in your bed and praising the kitty for catching mice. Just be sure to stagger the two events! :)

Personally, if Nero dropped a mouse in my bed, I'd have a fit. Fortunately (or not), he's the world's worst hunter.
